Our skin is typically the first visible sign that we are aging.  Depending on how much exposure to the sun we have received throughout our lives or even our diet, our skin responds to how much it has been exposed to over the years.  When we grow older, we often turn to cosmetics or even plastic surgery to help gain a more youthful appearance.  Whether you are repairing, restoring or improving the look of your face, there are a number of things you need to know about the facelift procedure.

Approach
Our primary goal at Garlich Facial Plastics is to help change the way a person feels about themselves.  This often comes down to their outward appearance.  If you are thinking about having a facelift, we recommend you ask yourself what you want the end result to be.  Nothing can ever replace how you feel about yourself.  We can work with you to help you achieve a look that you will ultimately give you the confidence you need to enjoy your life.  Your face provides you with the opportunity to express yourself.  We want to provide you with the feeling of value and higher self-esteem through our surgical procedures.

Before and After
One of the best things you can do for yourself is look at before and after facelift photos before you make your big decision.  Ask your cosmetic surgeon for before and after photos.  Your request doesn’t necessarily have to focus on your particular procedure.  Before and after pictures are a great way to learn more about the type of work your doctor has done and can do for you.

Injectable Fillers
Injectable fillers is a good alternative for a traditional facelift, but it is only a temporary solution.  An Injectable filler is not botox.  Injectable fillers are designed to help remove the folds and wrinkles in the cheeks and lower facial area.  Botox on the other hand is used to paralyze certain muscles around the eyes and forehead that can lead to fine lines in these particular regions.

Recovery
Once you have a facelift procedure, the thing you should be aware of, or have an accurate expectation of, is the recovery time.  A facelift can take anywhere between 2-4 hours.  Once the procedure is completed, you will experience discomfort, but it can be managed with over the counter pain medications.  After a couple of days, you should be able to wash your hair, but should avoid any strenuous activity until the swelling has subsided.  This time varies, but 4-6 weeks isn’t out of the ordinary.
